Rivington Pike Junior fell race - 22.03.2008
Some of our juniors competed at the Rivington
Pike junior fell race today which is the second oldest fell race in England and is an out and back course to the top of the pike. The snow that was forecast thankfully
stayed away but the winds were very strong the further up the course you went. Chloe Law had another good run
in the U12 race. The U14 and U16's ran as one race, Ashley Kay set off at a fast pace winning the race only 3 seconds off the course record which considering the high
winds was a great performance. As usual Joe Johnston set off steady but picked up the pace on the second half of the race
to finish in 3rd, Joe ran a 10k road race the day before so this was an excellent result. Pascal Dark and Jack Stringfellow also competed well
but unfortunately there are no results posted yet.
Salford 10K road race - 21.03.2008

Kendal Winter League, Austwick - 09.03.2008
Our juniors didn't have far to travel today for the Kendal Winter League fixture at Austwick, North Yorkshire. Thankfully the rain stayed away
for the junior races but the wind was quite wild. In the U12 race Chloe Law had her best race of the series to finish 9th girl. With the absence of one of the Helm Hill runners
Danny Walsh had a chance to boost his points total and finished in a good 2nd place followed closely by Elliott Whylie who had a great sprint finish to take 3rd.
The U17 runners had to contend with a very rocky ascent and descent before joining the long lane back up to the finish.
With this in mind Ashley Kay needed a good lead ready for the descent and stormed off in front on the way up but was closely followed by a Wharfedale harrier all the way. Once they reached the lane
Ashley broke away and won his 5th race of the series and breaking another course record. Ashley has now won the overall series but he misses the last race next week at Elterwater
and will have to wait and see if Alex Till from Dallam wins which will give them equal points and joint winners. Also in the same race Joe Johnston finished in a superb 6th passing two runners on the way to the finish.
Luke Gregory and Jack Stringfellow also competed well in the U17 race but unfortunately no results as yet.

English Schools XC, Liverpool - 08.03.2008
Some of our juniors represented Lancashire at the English Schools inter counties xc championships
held at Sefton Park, Liverpool. The course was flat and fast and didn't suit our fell runners like Phil and Ash.
First was Emma Flanagan competing in the Inter girls category, Emma still wasn't back to full form
but had a good run to finish 107th out of 325 runners.
Next was the Inter boys race Ashley Kay was dissapointed with his run
but still finished in the top 100 in 97th out of 326 runners.
Katie Ireland continuing her good form finished 104th out of 309 runners and picked up a team silver medal in the Senior girls race.
Last race of the day was the highly competetive Senior men's race and Phil Bolton had a good run to finish 158th out of 330 runners.
Kendal Winter League, Fell End Clouds - 02.03.2008 Results Link
A brand new course for this week's Kendal Winter League at Fell End Clouds in Sedbergh so new course records were set for the winners.
In the U12 race Chloe Law had a great run finishing in 8th position, her best to date in the series.
In the U14 race Danny Walsh finished in a great 3rd and Elliott Whylie not far behind in 4th. The U17 runners had to run through a large pack of horses not once
but twice. Ashley Kay led from the start and won his fourth race of the series, Joe Johnston was pleased with his 8th place, Luke Gregory continuing his
good form finished 12th and Jack Stringfellow finished 13th.

to finish 8th in the U11 girls. Callum Davidson had a great race to finish 2nd in the U11 boys only 5 seconds behind the winner. Joe Johnston had his best placed finish of the series
to come in 3rd in the U15 boys and in the same race Luke Gregory had his best race yet to finish 14th and Emma Flanagan finishing 3rd in the U17 women's race. The U17 men's race was as usual fast and furious and Ashley Kay who is getting
stronger with every race finished in an excellent 2nd with Jordan Beard 5th and Tom Maden was pleased with his 10th place.
